The Twelfth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), will be held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4 to 8, 2024. This marks the forum’s return to Africa after more than 20 years since its inception in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002.

WUF12, themed “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” will focus on localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address global challenges such as unaffordable housing, rising living costs, climate change, lack of basic services, and ongoing conflicts. The forum aims to empower local stakeholders, encourage citizen participation, and promote sustainable development tailored to local needs.

The event will feature high-profile dialogues, roundtables, assemblies, and special sessions where global thinkers, practitioners, and decision-makers will share insights and solutions. Key areas of focus include housing, climate crisis, community strength, financing localization, digital age challenges, and the loss of home.

The forum will provide a platform for global discussions on urbanization, aiming to build sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities for future generations.

Registration for WUF12 is open from February 1 to October 30, 2024.
