🚗 Car availability per household may seem like a simple indicator: You divide the number of cars by the number of households. However, the figure can hide important differences.

Low isn’t always sustainable. High isn’t always preference. The same number can mean a well-served urban household choosing to go car-free, or a rural household locked out of ownership entirely, with no alternative in sight. Without knowing the PT quality, the household size, and who in the household actually gets to drive, the average is not an insight. It is a placeholder.
