Integrated Urban Transport Systems – Factsheet
Cairo is one of the world’s cities with the highest rate of traffic congestion problems, losing millions of dollars every day. It is a fact that there is no option to get out of congestion with new roads. However, most cities continue to focus on the car when planning urban transport.
Participants from Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Tunisia and Egypt took part in lively discussions and showed how sustainable transport can become a reality. The workshop focused on the need to develop and implement an integrated transport planning process, with systems such as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and intermodal travel as key to achieving a sustainable shift.
