Integrating Popular Transport Systems into Global NDCs
Enhancing Global Climate Action through Adaptation and Mitigation of Popular Transport Systems
This background paper explores the vital role of popular transport in advancing global climate action. It highlights how these informal yet essential mobility services, which account for 68% of motorized trips in many cities in the Global South, can support the achievement of ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Developed by Transport for Cairo (TfC) and the Global Network for Popular Transport (GNPT) with support from TUMI, this resource outlines the rationale, opportunities, and actionable strategies for integrating popular transport into NDCs to reduce emissions, improve resilience, and ensure a just transition.
