Tirana Shopping Street Survey: Sustainable modes of transport are good for business!

Our latest publication delves into the mobility behavior customers along Tirana’s three main shopping streets.

Through a comprehensive survey, we received fascinating insights into how people travel, shop, and spend.

Key findings include:

  1. Sustainable travel is the norm: An impressive 87% of shoppers use sustainable modes like walking, cycling, or public transport to reach these shopping hubs. Only 13% of customers come by car.
  2. Local customers dominate: 62% of customers live within 3 km of the shopping streets, making sustainable travel options ideal.
  3. Retailers’ perceptions vs. reality: Shop owners tend to overestimate car usage and underestimate the use of public transport among their customers.
  4. Frequent visits from pedestrians: 66% of daily visitors arrive on foot, highlighting the critical role of pedestrians in supporting local businesses.
  5. Spending habits: While car and bike users spend the most per visit (€19, compared to 11€ on average by pedestrians), it’s the more frequent visits by those using sustainable transport that drive shop owners income, delivering 87% of weekly revenue.

Discover how these insights could reshape our understanding of urban mobility and local commerce.
