In a significant move towards greener public transportation, São Paulo has received a fleet of 50 battery electric buses. Operated by Transwolff, Transppass, Ambiental, and Campo Belo transport companies, this delivery accelerates the city’s goal to electrify 20% of its bus fleet by the end of 2024, totaling 2,600 units. São Paulo’s public transport fleet now includes a total of 270 electric vehicles, primarily trolleybuses powered by overhead wires. The new battery electric buses, designed by Caio with Mercedes-Benz and Scania components, and electrified by Eletra with WEG motors, encompass both standard and articulated models. Additionally, a partnership with Enel X has been solidified to enhance charging infrastructure at garages and provide vehicle operation monitoring services.

Regional E-Bus Mission Highlights
Salvador, Brazil Achieves E-Mobility Milestone with Inauguration of First Charging Station
In a significant stride towards electric mobility, Salvador, Brazil, marked a historic moment by inaugurating its first charging station on September 18. This state-of-the-art station, backed by the TUMI E-Bus Mission, can simultaneously accommodate up to 20 buses and features ten powerful direct current chargers, each boasting 160 kW. Notably, Salvador becomes the first among five Brazilian cities in the program to implement such a station and now boasts the largest public transportation charging station in Brazil. This milestone is a game-changer, allowing for the expansion of the BRT system and the operation of an additional system line. It also aligns with Salvador’s goal to have 30% of its BRT fleet as electric vehicles, ensuring the city can operate at least 40 electric buses. To celebrate this achievement, the city organized a ceremony attended by key officials, including the Municipal Secretary of Urban Mobility, Fabrizzio Müller, and Mayor Bruno Reis, who expressed gratitude for the pivotal support provided by the TUMI E-Bus Mission partners.
