In the run-up to COP 27, MobiliseYourCity and TUMI facilitate stakeholders dialogue on sustainable urban mobility in Dakar

From 3 to 7 October, CODATU, CETUD and Climate Chance fostered dialogue on the challenges of sustainable mobility on the African continent during the Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week 2022 in Dakar, Senegal.

MobiliseYourCity and TUMI used this opportunity to host the TUMI E-Bus mission network city-to-city learning exchange and the MobiliseYourCity African Community of Practice meeting with 20 city and country representatives from all over the continent. These sessions were a space to share experiences on the transformation of urban mobility in Africa, with a focus on electric mobility and transit-oriented development (TOD), and to build capacities on pressing issues such as paratransit and active modes.

TUMI and MobiliseYourCity also hosted the World Café – Bringing African voices to COP27 in which city representatives exchanged on the pathways for decarbonization and climate resilience in their cities. They discussed how international institutions could assist them in this process and address gaps to ensure success.

These events show the complementarity and fruitful collaboration between MobiliseYourCity and TUMI to support green and just transport systems in the Global South. This collaboration has been strengthened since the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) joined the MobiliseYourCity Partnership as funder in April 2022.
